How I approach the work
Understand the need
I want to understand who needs a change and what would make it useful. That helps me choose an approach that fits the situation and avoid complexity we don't need.
Make feedback part of the work
Tests, review environments and production data help us see where an idea holds up. I also question the measurements: what they capture, what they miss and how much confidence a decision deserves.
Help others work independently
I write down decisions and share what I've learned through documentation, tools and workshops. Other engineers should be able to understand a system and work on it without depending on its original author.
Outside professional work
Since April 2025, my focus has been on family and independent projects. Following the birth of our second child, we returned to Germany and built our family home. Alongside this, I continued independent study and personal projects in AI and modern web engineering. I learned and carried out much of the electrical work, flooring and other interior work myself, including the smart-home integration.
Household finance software
A self-hosted application I'm developing to bring our household finances into one place, with transaction imports and reconciliation, including refunds and settlements.
KNX and Home Assistant
Tools for our smart home, covering KNX configuration and Home Assistant. One building configuration produces coordinated KNX import files, making changes to lighting, heating and shading repeatable.
Homelab
My homelab is where I work on the operational side of software: provisioning hosts, deploying services, maintaining backups and moving applications. I manage it with Ansible and Proxmox.
Programming competitions
Programming competitions gave me problems worth studying in depth. I built Tron, Ants and Tetris bots, researching algorithms and adapting them to the game. Replay tools and simulations let me compare ideas and learn from the results.
Tools and technologies
My professional work has centered on TypeScript, React and Next.js, with GraphQL and C#/.NET behind the interfaces. I also work with data and analysis tools such as Datadog, BigQuery and pandas. In personal projects, recent choices include TanStack Start, Convex and Ansible.
